HoneyRun Kennel is dedicated to the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, the official dog of Nova Scotia. In the early 19th Century, these dogs were developed to "lure" waterfowl. The Toller dances along the shore in full view of the ducks. His playful actions make the ducks curiously defensive, and they swim towards the Toller to keep him in sight. In doing so, the ducks are lured within gunshot range. The Toller will also retrieve ducks from the water.

Why a Honeyrun Puppy?
The difference is in the quality

Honeyrun puppies are exceptional dogs. Our puppies get a great start for a lot of reasons. The parents have full health clearances, they have all been shown in breed or performance events and are all AKC Champions. All the parents are sane, stable dogs, with good work ethics, worthy of passing on their genes to future generation. Once the puppies are born, they are individually handled everyday; we have a lot of kids who adore the puppies. We also do something called early neurological stimulation (ENS) with them for the first 16 days. ENS is a process where the new puppies are introduced to different feelings, and held in different positions, thus making them more adaptable to change and better able to cope with stress. Studies have shown that ENS makes a huge difference in how the dogs react to stress later on in life. We focus heavily on socializing the puppies. Getting them used to car rides, crates, farm animals, city noises and family life in general...the sound of vacuum cleaners, TV's, radios, thunder storms and the like.

Our pups compete in every venue. We even have a pup that surfs in California, one they lure courses, one the plays the trumpet and one that starred in a Shakespearean play last summer here in Ohio. More commonly you see our dogs hunting along side there owners, performing at field trials, winning agility trials, winning obedience trials and of course we have the top tollers in the conformation ring. Out tollers have been represented at some of the most prestigious shows, including Westminster and the Eukanuba National Invitation in both conformation and obedience. We are proudest of the puppies sold as pets. Our pet puppies are great friends, staving off depression, bringing Joy, and keeping their owners active. Tollers are wonderful like that!

In our breeding program the primary focus is to produce dogs with outstanding temperaments, awesome working ability and great structure.

The planning of litters, orchestrating the breeding, showing the dogs and doing all the health testing is all very expensive but I feel it is all necessary to produce a quality puppy. The investments made in properly preparing for puppies are repaid tenfold in the great puppies produced.

You may ask yourself, why should I pay the price of a Honeyrun dog when I can get a toller for a lot cheaper? Here again, I reply that quality begets quality. In the long run, you are better off making the initial investment than to pay so much more in both vet bills and heartbreak down the road, if you purchase of dog of lesser quality.

There dogs are also known as Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, Tollers, Duck dogs, and Little River Duck Dogs. They are excellent dogs for hunting, obedience, agility, flyball, and dock diving.
